Rachel Tinney, LCSW
Therapist | Equine-Assisted Psychotherapist | Trauma Specialist
Rachel Tinney is a compassionate and skilled therapist who integrates evidence-based practices with the healing power of the human-animal connection. She earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Utah and has since specialized in working with individuals experiencing OCD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and self-injury.
With certifications in Natural Lifemanship (Level 1) and Human Equine Alliance for Learning (HEAL, Bronze Level), Rachel brings expertise in relational equine-assisted psychotherapy to her work. She draws from clinical frameworks including CBT, DBT, and ACT, and takes a client-centered, collaborative approach to every session.
Rachel’s lifelong belief in the healing potential of animals—grounded in her own lived experience—informs her therapeutic style: respectful, empowering, and relational. Her goal is to walk alongside clients as they build insight, regulate emotions, and develop the tools needed for meaningful and lasting change.
The HEAL Model™ uses a set of interrelated principles for understanding and managing emotion in ourselves and others, that we call “Six Keys to Relationship”. Each “key” provides a strategy for solving the most common interpersonal dilemmas, such as poor boundaries or negative self-esteem.
Natural Lifemanship (NL), is a trauma-informed approach to helping humans, horses and other animals through a model of equine-assisted learning, therapy, and psychotherapy that fosters growth and healing through connected relationships.
